Prof. dr. Dimitri Schuurman is a business developer at the imec research group for Media, Innovation and Contemporary Technologies, Department of Communication Sciences and Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design, Ghent University. He is specialised in living labs, user innovation, open innovation, responsible innovation, innovation management and strategic design.

Dimitri is a visiting professor in strategic design and innovation management at Ghent University and a university business development manager at the research group imec-MICT-Ghent University. His work focuses on research related to inclusive design, impact via Living Labs, and design for futures, particularly in the context of new and emerging technologies. He is also affiliated with the European Network of Living Labs as a senior research strategist.

Since 2015, Dimitri has held a PhD on innovation management in Living Labs from Ghent University and the Free University of Brussels. His research led to the development of a three-layered model that is now widely applied in both Living Lab research and practice. He has published more than 200 academic papers and has served as a guest editor for multiple journals. For over a decade, he has led a special interest group on Living Labs within the International Society for Professional Innovation Management.

In addition to his academic roles, Dimitri is also active as an independent consultant in the fields of open innovation, user innovation, and strategic innovation management.
