Johannes Cottyn (Associate Professor) is member of the Industrial Systems Engineering (ISyE) research group of Ghent University which is since 2014 a core lab within the strategic research center Flanders Make. He is leading the competence domain "Manufacturing Knowledge and Automation Engineering" and is vice-head of the department Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design (EA18).
His initial research interests lie in the combination and integration of industrial control & software systems (cf. PLC, MES, WMS, KPI dashboards, etc.) and manufacturing excellence best practices (cf. Lean, Six sigma, QRM, etc.). He has gathered in-depth expertise being involved in various research and industrial projects. His current research focuses on the optimal design and management of human-robot collaborative assembly workplaces leveraging on flexible automation concepts, context-aware information systems and digital twin technology in the make sector.
