Davy Parmentier is a senior researcher within the research group design.nexus in the field of product development for Industry 5.0 at Ghent University, Department of Industrial Systems and Product Design (EA18), Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. His research focuses on product design for Industry 5.0, particularly how to design products for easy and intuitive assembly and disassembly, with links to repair and remanufacturing. He also works on designing personalised products and small series of products tailored to an Industry 5.0 production environment. Additionally, he coordinates industrial collaborations and projects with companies and supervises master's theses in Industrial Design.

His expertise includes design and engineering for Industry 5.0, product design for easy and intuitive manual assembly, product design for disassembly with a focus on repair, refurbishment, and remanufacturing, as well as computational design for personalised and small-series products.

Davy Parmentier obtained his Master in Industrial Engineering & Industrial Design (Magna Cum Laude) from Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen (Howest) in 2006. He then spent eight years in industry, managing design, engineering, and research projects, gaining extensive experience in modular and system-based product design. Since 2014, he has been associated with Ghent University, where he teaches several courses. In 2020, he completed his PhD on "Design for Assembly Meaning: a study from product design around facilitating intuitive manual assembly." His research interests include product design within a manufacturing context, Industry 5.0, computational design, interaction, cognition, and sustainability.
