Prof. dr. Jan Detand is a full professor and head of the research group design.nexus. A group in the field of product development at Ghent University Campus Kortrijk, within the Department of Industrial Systems and Product Design (EA18), Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. His research focuses on Design & Engineering for Industry 5.0, particularly in the context of changing production environments, as well as Medical Product Design.
Jan Detand obtained a Master’s degree in Electromechanics from Ghent University in 1986 and a PhD from the Catholic University of Louvain in 1993 on the subject of "A Computer-Aided Process Planning System that Generates Non-Linear Process Plans." In 1996, he became a professor at Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen (HOWEST) in the field of Industrial Design Engineering. In 2013, the engineering department of HOWEST was integrated into the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University.
