She specialises in Conversationa Agents, VulnerableUsers, Child-robot Interaction, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Artificial Intelligence and Natura Language Processing.

Fran is a postdoctoral researcher in the design.nexus and imec-mict research groups. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from Universität Tübingen in 2013 and a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2016. Her research focuses on improving the quality of life of vulnerable individuals through technology, with expertise in advanced products, interfaces, user-centred design, e-prototyping, and design for mental health and well-being.

Her interest in this field began during an internship at MBRDNA in Silicon Valley in 2014, where she worked on enhancing driver safety while using in-vehicle infotainment systems. For her Master’s thesis, she developed a self-disclosure module for a NAO-robot to strengthen the bond between the robot and children with Type I diabetes as part of the Horizon 2020 PAL project.

She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, “Supporting Electronic Mental Health with Artificial Intelligence: Thought Record Analysis and Guidance,” in December 2022. Since completing her PhD, she has pursued two part-time postdoctoral positions at TU Delft (2022/23) and TU Eindhoven (2022-2024).
