ISyE's January Seminar
(15-01-2026) Yesterday, we hosted our internal January seminar, featuring two inspiring contributions: a training on counter-intuitive statistics of permutations of sets and one warm introduction of one of our newest researchers.
Dr. Peter Ottoy presented "The great escape: on counter-intuitive statistics of permutations of sets" via "The 100 prisoner problem". The group received training on probability, a crucial topic for our area of research. This was done by investigating remarkable statistical results linked to permutations of sets, using Python to adopt a simulation-based approach.
Following up, we also warmly welcomed our new researcher Luca Forte. Luca shared insights into his background, research journey and personal story. A great way to get to know the people behind the research.
Many thanks to both speakers. See you at February's seminar!
