FlandersMake@UGent - ISyE at ABISS BE 2025

(13-10-2025) ABISS was "the place to be" on the 9th of October for management and OT-IT teams from the Benelux industry, looking for solutions to digitize their processes. FlandersMake@UGent - ISye joined the ABISS 2025 fair with VE∞X@UGent, as part of the TETRA project.

ABISS BE 2025: the summit for Industrial Digital Transformation

Last week, our research group proudly joined the ABISS 2025 fair, showcasing our work in virtual engineering and digital innovation alongside our partners from the TETRA VE∞X project “Virtual Engineering ∞ eXperience for Production and Logistics Environments.” Together, we brought to life how cutting-edge research and real-world industry challenges can meet in meaningful, transformative ways.

We were thrilled to welcome so many visitors to our stand and exchange ideas on how virtual engineering and experience can accelerate innovation in manufacturing and logistics. The vibrant exchange of ideas and curiosity among visitors made the fair exceptionally dynamic.

Our joint booth, it was the largest in town, was buzzing with activity. Visitors were able to explore how virtual experience technologies can reshape manufacturing and logistics. We demonstrated how data, automation, and AI can make production processes not only smarter and more efficient, but also more human-centered, helping operators and engineers work in more intuitive and connected environments.

At the core of our exhibition stood six partner companies who enthusiastically showcased tangible applications of virtual commissioning and digital Twins. These technologies are already being used to optimize production lines, train employees, and accelerate prototyping. Clear examples of how virtual engineering is driving innovation across the industrial landscape. This collaboration illustrated perfectly how fundamental research from Ghent University and applied industrial expertise can come together to build the factory of the future.

There was an expert class given by Daniel Guzman Vargas, titled “Unlocking Real Value in Industrial AI: Context, Quality and Knowledge.” His session drew significant interest, demonstrating how Artificial Intelligence can truly make a difference when applied within a solid engineering context, grounded in data quality, process understanding, and human expertise.

We look back with great satisfaction on a successful edition filled with inspiring conversations, engaging encounters, and meaningful connections. It was a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between hardware, technical software, and design, showing how collaborative innovation can turn complex challenges into actionable solutions.

As we continue our work, one thing is clearer than ever: virtual engineering is not just the future, it’s today’s reality. Together with our partners and the broader research community, we’re committed to shaping the digital workplace of tomorrow, empowering companies to innovate with confidence and intelligence.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited our booth, joined our demos, or shared their ideas and enthusiasm. You continue to inspire us to push boundaries and build better, smarter, and more sustainable production environments.

Another big thank you to our fantastic partners for joining forces with us in this journey toward smarter, more connected manufacturing: Flanders Make, VLAIO, Universiteit Gent, HOWEST Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, HITlab_Howest, Agoria, XR Valley, Actemium, ViManPro, VINTECC, Invisto, SupportSquare and XRintelligence.
