Welcome week in Ghent and Kortrijk: a successful start!
(26-09-2025) From Tuesday September 16th to Friday September 19th, the faculty pulled out all the stops for an extensive welcome week in Ghent and Kortrijk, featuring both local introduction days and the international iWISE program in Ghent.
Local introduction days
From September 17th to 19th, our faculty welcomed 924 new students in Ghent: 332 first-year engineering technology students, 449 civil engineering students, and 143 civil engineering-architect students. Additionally, 52 first-year engineering technology students and 37 industrial design students began their studies in Kortrijk.Through a rotation system in small groups, all Ghent students participated in various information sessions covering topics such as IT platforms, FRiS, academic trajectory guidance, and tutoring programs. They also got acquainted with student associations Hermes, VTK, and DLK. In the plateau building, students could also discover the impressive prototypes of UGent Racing and UGent Sailing.
iWISE for international students
Running in parallel were the iWISE sessions for 145 new international students. The program prepared them in three areas: their studies at FEA, life in Ghent and Belgium (Dutch crash course, cultural differences, mobility), and social integration through a meet & greet lunch and city game. With this extensive welcome week, both local and international students received a warm welcome and started their studies well-prepared.
