Big in Japan - Carlos Miguel Palao at APMS 2025

(05-09-2025) ISyE was present at the APMS 2025 conference at Kamakura, Japan. Our PhD researcher, Carlos Miguel Palao, had the privilege of presenting our work at APMS 2025, hosted in the stunning city of Kamakura, Japan. Found out how he did and how the conference went.

Our PhD researcher Carlos Miguel Palao had the great opportunity to present the ISyE paper “Resilient Workforce Planning for Mixed-Model Assembly Lines with Training and Learning Effects” at APMS 2025 in the beautiful city of Kamakura, Japan. The conference is all about cyber-physical-human production systems, exploring human-AI collaboration and beyond.

With Carlos being the first author of this paper, he was the perfect person for this occasion. Coauthors Professors Steven Hoedt, Johannes Cottyn and El-Houssaine Aghezzaf were fully confident in Carlos' prestations. Their work delves into the optimization of operator learning through work and training assignments in Mixed-Model Assembly.

In his social media post on LinkedIn, Carlos specifically expressed his thanks to the abovementioned coauthors, whose insights and collaboration made this contribution possible and to FlandersMake@UGent - ISyE for the support they provided for this research.

Objectives and scope of APMS 2025

APMS 2025 brings together leading international experts in manufacturing, service, and logistics systems from academia, industry, and government to explore cutting-edge developments in Cyber-Physical-Human Production Systems (CPHPS).

The conference will address key challenges and advancements in smart factories and warehouses, autonomous production systems, sustainable supply chains, and human-centric AI applications. Special attention will be given to how human capabilities can be integrated with AI insights to optimize next-generation production systems and meet societal responsibilities.

The conference will feature original, high-impact academic contributions, which will be published in the Springer Series AICT. The conference is sponsored by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) and organized by IFIP Working Group 5.7, established in 1978.
