(28-09-2026) Our ISyE seminars are back! The ISyE September Seminar featured two of our researchers. Rob Hanusa with his keynote on "Microgrid Sizing". Lander Maes with his "Who am I?" presentation.
As renewable energy adoption grows throughout Europe and the world, we see an increasing number of “microgrids” being built to supply local energy demand.
A microgrid might consist of solar panels, wind turbines, a battery, and it may or may not maintain a connection with the grid. Once a microgrid is built, it is intended to be run for decades. But how does one find the optimal size of its components?
Rob's research proposes a scenario generation method that accounts for the changing dynamics of the energy market and the very real risk of periods of extreme prices.
The floor was also given to our new colleague Lander Maes. He gave a short introduction to our department about himself in his "Who am I?" talk. Of course, we had already given him a warm welcome.
