Optimization Planning tool for a chemical processing company


A chemical processing company needed a mathematical optimization tool to generate production sequences, that would fit within a set of more than 100 constraints. These constraints were very varied: capacity, exclusion between lines, cogeneration requirements, personnel capacity, sequence dependent setups, etc. The master thesis developed a mixed integer model, that could solve up to one month of daily planning in an optimal fashion, using CPLEX and AMPL. Further research is planned to extend the planning horizon to one year using an hierarchical planning approach. For more information, contact prof. Aghezzaf.
