Flow Analysis for a forklift-free factory in a vehicle manufacturing company (oct 2007)


This research was performed on behalf of a company in the automotive branch, and was sponsored by the IWT office. Our engagement was aimed at building a high level flow model of the parts that move from receiving to the assembly line, and using this model to determine capacities, number of carriers, loading/unloading options, buffer sizes and a rough indication of total investment cost. A tool was built that allows calculated analysis of the amount of transportation devices needed, taking into account specific characteristics of forklift trucks, AGV's, tow trucks, overhead conveyors, ...
